Beth on a C-17

Beth and I on a C-17.  We flew from Rota, Spain to South Carolina.  The Army CH-47 was coming in from Afghanistan.  It was very beat up. Beth asked the Army Sergeant if they were going to junk it. "No", he said. "We will fix it up and fly it for 25 more years."  We used the CH-47 in Vietnam, so it is not a new helo.

The head of the CH-47 emerges.  We flew into a small National Guard Base in South Carolina from Rota, Spain.

A senior Air Force Master Sergeant greeted us, and said, "You can't be here."  "Ah, but we are here", we said. "Get back on the plane", she said.  It was going to California.  "No, we said.

There was no customs at the small base, so we entered the country illegally. I hope they don't come for us.

Beth preferred these planes to commercial. We carried air mattresses and ultra light sleeping bags. After we were airborne we went to sleep and woke up in Europe. They did tell us not to sleep under the CH-47, just in case.

The Air Force took great care of us. They could not believe how old we were.  Thanks, Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines.

C-17's at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany.

C-17 in New Zealand

C-17 and a C-130 with skis, in New Zealand. They are Reserve Air National Guard crews and planes from New York, and they support our research stations in Antartica.
